Bunyoro was buzzing with activity as some of Uganda’s most powerful leaders descended on the region to inspect a series of multi-billion-shilling projects expected to reshape the country’s economic future.

Led by Vice President Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Cabinet Ministers and Permanent Secretaries toured key infrastructure developments in Hoima and Kikuube districts, taking stock of Uganda’s preparations for both the AFCON 2027 tournament and the country’s long-awaited first oil production.

The delegation first visited the impressive Hoima City Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility valued at approximately $130 million. The stadium is among Uganda’s flagship venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and boasts a CAF-standard playing surface and modern arena facilities designed to host continental football action.

Officials expressed confidence that the stadium will not only elevate Uganda’s sporting profile but also create jobs, attract investment, and stimulate tourism across the region.

The team then proceeded to the Kingfisher Oil Project, where they received updates on Uganda’s oil production plans. Project officials revealed that eight production wells are already prepared, positioning the facility to deliver up to 40,000 barrels of oil per day once commercial production begins.

The delegation was also briefed on progress along the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which is reported to be approximately 75 percent complete. The pipeline remains a critical component of Uganda’s strategy to export crude oil to international markets.

The final stop was Kabalega International Airport, another strategic investment nearing completion. The airport is expected to play a major role in supporting oil and gas operations while boosting regional trade, tourism, and connectivity.

Speaking after the tour, several ministers highlighted the transformative impact these projects are expected to have on local communities through employment opportunities, business growth, and improved infrastructure.

Minister Balaam Barugahara shared details of the visit on social media, praising President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership and vision in driving Uganda’s oil, refinery, and export agenda.

“Today, Members of Cabinet and Permanent Secretaries joined Her Excellency the Vice President and the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister on a tour of key infrastructure projects in the Bunyoro Sub-region,” Balaam posted.

He added that the delegation was pleased to find the projects progressing according to schedule and described the developments as strategic investments that are positioning Uganda for greater economic growth and regional connectivity.

With first oil targeted for mid-2026 and AFCON 2027 preparations gathering momentum, Bunyoro is rapidly emerging as one of Uganda’s most important economic and infrastructure hubs.
