Veteran journalist Andrew M. Mwenda has announced that Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda are expected to reopen following discussions he held with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Mwenda said he and Gen. Muhoozi, whom he described as leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), had agreed that both media outlets should resume operations soon.

“I have just held discussions with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and we, as leaders of PLU, have agreed that we shall reopen both Daily Monitor and NTV soon,” Mwenda wrote.

He added that before the reopening takes place, discussions will first be held with the management of the two sister companies to agree on the way forward.

“However, we shall first have discussions with the management of both sister companies. I will inform them when we can have this meeting,” he stated.

The announcement comes amid heightened public attention following developments involving the two Nation Media Group-owned outlets. While Mwenda’s statement signals an intention to restore their operations, no official communication had yet been issued by Nation Media Group confirming when the outlets would resume broadcasting and publishing.

More updates are expected as discussions between the parties progress.
