Veteran Ugandan musician Bebe Cool has revealed that he once declined a ministerial appointment offered by Yoweri Museveni, saying he has no desire to serve directly in government despite his long-standing support for the ruling establishment.

Speaking during a recent radio interview, Bebe Cool said the ministerial post was not the only government role he turned down. He also disclosed that he rejected ambassadorial appointments, explaining that he does not want to actively participate in politics.

According to the singer, he told President Museveni during a meeting that he preferred not to join Cabinet. He argued that he believes he can contribute more effectively by working alongside government initiatives rather than becoming part of the government itself.

Bebe Cool added that remaining outside government allows him greater flexibility to pursue collaborations, contracts and other opportunities while still supporting national development.

The revelation is likely to fuel fresh public debate, given Bebe Cool’s well-known political affiliation and years of outspoken support for President Museveni. However, he maintained that his decision was driven by personal conviction rather than a rejection of the government or its agenda.
