The ghost of unfinished financial battles continues to hover over the estate of late business mogul BMK, with fresh claims once again putting the family’s iconic Naguru residence under the spotlight.

A social media post that has resurfaced online alleges that a bank was pursuing the repossession of the late tycoon’s family home in Naguru after one of his sons allegedly secured a multibillion-shilling loan using the property's land title as collateral. The post further claimed that the son later left the country and was residing in Europe.

While the specific repossession claim remains unverified through official court records currently available, the allegations mirror a long-running series of disputes that have surrounded BMK’s estate since his death in September 2021.

Recent reports and court-related disputes involving BMK family properties have repeatedly centered on allegations that family assets were used to secure large loans connected to business deals that later ran into trouble. According to accounts from individuals close to the estate, one of BMK’s sons allegedly obtained financing for a major government project and used family-linked properties as security without the knowledge of other estate stakeholders.

The controversy has already triggered legal battles involving billions of shillings. Earlier this year, negotiations were reported between members of the BMK family and creditors seeking repayment of outstanding debts tied to property assets associated with the estate.

Observers say the ongoing disputes highlight the enormous challenge of managing one of Uganda’s most recognizable business empires after the passing of its founder.

BMK, born Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige, built a vast portfolio spanning hospitality, real estate, construction and tourism, becoming one of Uganda’s most celebrated self-made entrepreneurs before his death in Nairobi in 2021.

As fresh discussions about the Naguru property circulate online, attention is once again turning to the future of the late tycoon’s legacy and whether the family can successfully shield key assets from mounting legal and financial pressures.

For now, the allegations regarding the Naguru home remain claims circulating online, while the wider debt and property disputes surrounding the BMK estate continue to generate intense public interest.
