Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has opened up about the powerful prayer behind his eldest son Solomon Kampala’s name as he celebrates his 21st birthday.
In an emotional birthday message, Bobi Wine looked back to the day Solomon was born, recalling that he was still a young man who was anxious about fatherhood but determined to give his son a different life.
The former musician and politician said that despite having already experienced fame and some level of success, he quickly realised that wealth and recognition could not offer a person what he believed mattered most — wisdom.
Bobi Wine revealed that he turned to God for wisdom and deliberately named his son Solomon after the biblical King Solomon.
He said the name was not simply a choice but a prayer he made for his son from the beginning.
“Like King Solomon in the Bible, I turned to God and asked for wisdom. That is why I named you Solomon,” he wrote.
“That name was my prayer for you from the very beginning, it still is!”
The proud father said he has consistently prayed for Solomon to grow into a man with wisdom, discernment, courage, humility and the ability to recognise what is right even when the world says otherwise.
Bobi Wine, who is also the father of Shadrack, Shalom and Suubi, said watching his firstborn grow into adulthood has filled him with gratitude and pride.
He encouraged the 21-year-old to remain grounded in his faith and live according to the principles contained in Micah 6:8 — to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.
As Solomon enters what his father described as a new chapter of life, Bobi Wine once again dedicated him to God, praying for divine protection, strength and wisdom as he navigates the uncertainties of adulthood.
He also invoked the blessings of Solomon’s ancestors, praying that his life would become a blessing to many and that his purpose would always be bigger than himself.
The message also carried a strong lesson on confidence and personal integrity.
Bobi Wine urged his son to respect everyone regardless of their status, fear no one except God and never be afraid to stand up for what is right.
“Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated and never be afraid to stand for what is right,” he told him.
The birthday tribute comes years after Solomon first stepped into the public spotlight as Bobi Wine and Barbie Kyagulanyi’s firstborn son. He has since pursued interests away from simply being known as the child of two prominent Ugandans, including athletics. Pulse Sports reported in 2023 that Solomon had taken up sprinting and was competing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay events.
Solomon has also remained involved in Uganda’s highly charged public and political conversation, particularly during events surrounding his family in 2026. His public profile has grown considerably as he has spoken out on behalf of his parents and family.
But on his 21st birthday, his father chose to focus less on politics, fame or public life and instead on the values he hopes will guide Solomon.
Bobi Wine concluded by returning to the central meaning of his son’s name — wisdom.
He prayed that Solomon would value character above fame, wisdom above wealth and courage above fear.
“May you be wise enough to know the truth, humble enough to follow it, and courageous enough to walk it,” Bobi Wine wrote.
He then wished his son a happy 21st birthday, signing off with the emphatic Luganda phrase:
“EMBOGO TEBAJILUNDA!!”
