Captain Mike Mukula has led tributes to veteran Ugandan statesman and retired military officer Gen. Moses Ali following news of his death.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Mukula said he received the news of his longtime friend's passing with "profound sorrow and a heavy heart," stating that Gen. Moses Ali died at 4:25 p.m. at Nakasero Hospital after days of hospitalization. The development follows widespread concern over the veteran leader's health after he was admitted earlier this week.
Opening his message with the Islamic verse, "Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn", meaning "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return," Mukula described the late general as a "distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and statesman" who dedicated his life to serving Uganda.
He praised Gen. Moses Ali's contribution to the country's pursuit of peace, national unity, stability and reconstruction, saying his role in Uganda's history would remain permanently remembered.
According to Mukula, the late leader embodied courage, humility and unwavering commitment to public service, qualities that inspired generations of Ugandans.
On behalf of his family, Mukula extended condolences to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Government and people of Uganda, the bereaved family, the people of Adjumani District, the wider West Nile sub-region and all Ugandans mourning what he described as an immense national loss.
He urged the nation to remember Gen. Moses Ali not only for the high offices he held but for the lives he touched and the legacy he leaves behind.
"As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate a life lived with honour, duty, and distinction," Mukula said, adding that Uganda had lost one of its finest sons whose example of patriotism, sacrifice and selfless service would continue inspiring future generations.
Mukula concluded his tribute with a prayer asking Almighty Allah to forgive the late general's shortcomings, grant him mercy, admit him into Jannatul Firdaus and give strength and comfort to his family and all those grieving his passing.
