A fresh twist has emerged in the legal battle surrounding opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused Obeid Lutale after Kenyan Senior Counsel and lead defence lawyer Martha Karua was reportedly denied entry into Uganda at Entebbe International Airport.

According to information circulating from the defence team on Monday, Karua was stopped by immigration authorities upon arrival and instructed to return, with no official reason allegedly provided for the decision.

The development has immediately sparked questions among legal observers because Karua has been one of the most visible figures leading Besigye’s defence team in recent months.

What has raised even more intrigue is that she was reportedly travelling alongside Charles Kanjama, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, who was allegedly allowed to proceed into Uganda while Karua was blocked.

The incident comes against the backdrop of Karua’s long-running involvement in Besigye’s case. She previously fought legal battles to secure permission to represent the veteran Ugandan opposition politician in Ugandan courts after initial challenges regarding her right to practise locally.

As of publication, no official statement explaining the denial of entry had been publicly issued by Ugandan immigration authorities.

The latest development is likely to intensify scrutiny of the ongoing proceedings involving Dr. Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale, with legal circles across East Africa closely watching for clarification from the relevant authorities.

The story remains developing. More details are expected as official responses emerge.
