The swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds was supposed to be all about power, politics and a new term in office but for many Ugandans online, the real conversation quickly shifted to fashion.
And at the center of that unexpected style storm were media personality Kasuku and Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Almost immediately after photos and videos from the ceremony flooded TikTok, Facebook and X, Ugandans started debating who had arrived looking the cleanest and most stylish at the national event. One viral post even claimed that “Ugandans overwhelmingly voted Kasuku and Gen Muhoozi as the best dressed people at the swearing-in today.”
Kasuku, known for his loud personality and celebrity gossip brand, showed up in a sharply tailored outfit that instantly grabbed attention at Kololo. Videos of him arriving confidently at the ceremony started circulating online, with supporters praising his polished look and confidence.
But it was Gen Muhoozi’s appearance that truly sent social media pages into overdrive.
The First Son and military chief arrived with his trademark composed military presence, dressed in a crisp ceremonial look that many online users described as “presidential,” “elegant” and “commanding.” Photos of him during the swearing-in rehearsals and the main ceremony were heavily shared across Instagram and X, with many supporters saying he completely “owned the event.”
At a ceremony already filled with heavy security, foreign dignitaries and political leaders, the fashion conversation became one of the biggest side attractions of the day.
Some social media users joked that Kasuku looked like he had spent weeks preparing his outfit for the cameras, while others argued that nobody could compete with Gen Muhoozi’s military elegance and calm confidence.
The discussions became even bigger after several entertainment blogs and pages reposted side-by-side photos of the two men, asking followers to choose who carried the day better.
While the event itself marked President Museveni officially beginning another term in office during a colorful national ceremony attended by thousands at Kololo, online audiences appeared equally fascinated by the personalities and fashion moments happening away from the main speeches.
Even though many officials, celebrities and politicians attended the swearing-in, Kasuku and Gen Muhoozi somehow became the unexpected stars of Uganda’s online fashion conversation.
And if social media reactions are anything to go by, the battle for “best dressed at Kololo” may continue for days.
