Prominent Ugandan lawyer and corporate executive Robert Kabushenga has stirred fresh political tension inside Ugandan football after publicly reviving his long-standing interest in the FUFA presidency.
Kabushenga who served as managing director and chief executive officer of Vision Group from 2007 to 2021 - shocked football fans after declaring that he is still available to lead Ugandan football.
In a strongly-worded statement now circulating online, Kabushenga revisited the controversial 2013 FUFA election period, alleging that laws were amended specifically to block his candidacy.
“In June 2013, I wanted to contest for the @OfficialFUFA Presidency. The law was quickly amended to keep me out,” he wrote.
But more than ten years later, the former media boss says he has not abandoned the dream.
“I am back to say I am still available for that task. I can bring about the footballing glory all we Ugandans dream of.”
Kabushenga then delivered the line that has set social media ablaze:
“Time to save our football from thieves. Let’s take back our game.”
The comments have instantly triggered heated reactions across Uganda’s football community, with fans debating whether the respected corporate figure is preparing for a serious future challenge within Federation of Uganda Football Associations politics.
Known for his sharp public commentary and influence in corporate Uganda, Kabushenga remains a significant figure even after leaving Vision Group in 2021. He also serves as a non-executive board member of KCB Bank Uganda Limited.
His latest intervention now adds fresh pressure and intrigue to the already sensitive world of Ugandan football administration, a space long dominated by intense rivalries, political maneuvering, and accusations of poor governance.
Whether this was merely a warning shot or the beginning of a real FUFA comeback campaign, football circles in Kampala are now watching very closely.
