Uganda’s First Lady Janet Museveni has given Ugandans another reason to smile after appearing in new family photographs following months away from the public spotlight.

The images show the 78-year-old First Lady indoors with her daughters, Natasha Karugire and Diana Kyaremera, in a warm family moment that has quickly attracted attention.

Natasha shared the photographs with a simple but emotional caption: “Thank you, LORD Jesus!”

The appearance comes after President Yoweri Museveni revealed in June that his wife had suffered a serious health scare on March 21, 2026.

In his birthday message celebrating Janet’s 78th birthday, Museveni said the First Lady’s life had been saved through what he described as divine intervention and the work of doctors.

“God, using good doctors, saved Maama’s life, and she is now recovering well,” the President said in the message.

Museveni did not disclose the nature of Janet’s illness, but his revelation confirmed that her prolonged absence from public engagements had been linked to a significant health challenge.

The First Lady later broke her silence herself, thanking Ugandans for their prayers and birthday wishes.

“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth, He lives!” she said in a message shared on June 25.

She also thanked President Museveni and the people of Uganda for standing with her through the difficult period.

The latest family photographs now offer another glimpse of Janet as she continues her recovery, surrounded by members of her family.

For many Ugandans who had followed the uncertainty surrounding her health, the sight of the First Lady together with her daughters has been an emotional moment.

Janet, who has served as Uganda’s First Lady since 1986 and as Minister of Education and Sports since 2016, remains one of the country’s most recognisable public figures.

Her return to family photographs comes after a difficult few months but this time, the message from the Museveni family is one of gratitude, faith and relief.
