Former Ugandan Vice President Edward Ssekandi has publicly paid tribute to Gen. Salim Saleh, thanking the veteran military leader for what he described as years of unwavering friendship, compassion, and dedication to ordinary Ugandans.

In a heartfelt message shared on X, Ssekandi said Saleh has remained “a friend I can always count on,” praising his genuine kindness, tolerance, and willingness to support people from all walks of life. He added that these qualities have made the General “a true pillar” in the community and expressed gratitude for having him in his corner.

The message has attracted attention because it offers a rare personal glimpse into the longstanding relationship between the two senior figures, whose association dates back many years through public service and the National Resistance Movement.

Ssekandi’s remarks also echo comments he made during this year’s Heroes Day commemorations, when he applauded both President Yoweri Museveni and Gen. Saleh for their contributions to Uganda’s liberation, peace, and national development.

Gen. Saleh, who serves as Senior Presidential Adviser on Defence, has long been recognized for his involvement in community empowerment initiatives and support for grassroots development, earning a reputation among many supporters as an accessible leader focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
