The next iconic Uganda Cranes jersey might not come from a global sportswear designer.
It could come from you.
In a bold move that has already sparked excitement among football fans, MTN Uganda and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have officially launched the nationwide “Free Your Fayaaa – Tulage Waaka” campaign, handing ordinary Ugandans the chance to create the next official Uganda Cranes kit.
The campaign was unveiled at MTN headquarters in Kampala on Thursday, with officials describing it as a historic opportunity for supporters to directly shape one of the country's biggest symbols of national pride.
The stakes are massive.
The overall winner will pocket UGX 50 million and see their design become the official Uganda Cranes jersey worn on the continental stage in future competitions. Other finalists will also walk away with prizes.
Entries will be submitted through MTN's online platform from June 22 until July 9, with participation open to everyone, whether you're a professional designer, a student, a football fanatic, or simply a creative Ugandan with a vision. Individuals and teams are both eligible to enter.
After submissions close, a judging panel will shortlist seven finalists who will attend a special bootcamp from July 14 to 16. During the intensive mentorship program, participants will refine their concepts before the winning design is selected.
FUFA First Vice President Justus Mugisha said it was only fitting that fans themselves help create the jersey that represents the nation on the football stage.
"The campaign gives every fan a chance to add value and truly own the Uganda Cranes jersey they wear," Mugisha said as he urged Ugandans across the country to showcase their creativity.
The initiative comes as the Uganda Cranes continue preparations for major continental assignments, including upcoming AFCON qualification campaigns, making the search for a new identity on the pitch even more significant.
For football lovers, this is more than a design contest.
It's a chance to leave a permanent mark on Ugandan football history.
