The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has continued expanding its leadership structure after its chairman, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, assigned a fresh batch of Patriotic Officer (PO) numbers to several senior government officials and party leaders.
Leading the latest list is Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth, who was designated PO 059, followed by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa as PO 060.
Also receiving Patriotic Officer numbers were Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka (PO 061), Minister Anifa Bangirana Kawooya (PO 062), alongside several other PLU members, with the latest allocation extending through PO 070, assigned to Mr. Abong Thomas Lomuria.
According to PLU, the Patriotic Officer numbering system is intended to recognize members for their role in strengthening the organization and promoting its principles. The latest assignments build on an earlier rollout of PO numbers that initially covered members of the PLU Central Committee before being expanded to additional leaders.
The new recognitions come just days after Gen. Muhoozi reshuffled the PLU Central Committee, appointing Speaker Oboth and Deputy Speaker Tayebwa as members of the committee and naming them his special envoys to Parliament. The restructuring also brought several cabinet ministers and other prominent figures into the organization's top leadership.
The Patriotic League of Uganda has described the Patriotic Officer numbering system as a way of acknowledging service, seniority and commitment to the movement as it continues to expand its national structures.
