Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met with the leadership of Nation Media Group (NMG) in Entebbe as efforts continue to resolve the shutdown of the company’s Ugandan media outlets. The meeting reportedly took place at the Special Forces Command headquarters.
The discussions follow the military’s closure of NMG outlets, including NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, Spark TV, KFM, and other affiliated operations after Gen. Muhoozi publicly ordered that the outlets cease operations, saying they would not reopen without his permission. Soldiers were subsequently deployed to NMG premises, disrupting television, radio and newspaper operations.
Nation Media Group has confirmed that talks are underway with the military in an effort to restore its operations, while staff have remained unable to fully access their offices during the standoff. The Ugandan government has said the closures are linked to an ongoing security-led inquiry.
As of Wednesday, the meeting between Gen. Muhoozi and NMG leadership marks the most significant engagement yet aimed at resolving the dispute, although no official announcement has been made on when the affected television, radio and newspaper outlets will resume normal operations.
