Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has reassured Ugandans that the country's security situation remains stable, while issuing a strong warning about what he described as internal and external forces working against Uganda's sovereignty.

Speaking during a pass-out ceremony for recruits at Basic Military Training Schools, Gen. Muhoozi said Uganda continues to enjoy peace and security but argued that the country still faces challenges from individuals he referred to as sympathizers of "imperial colonialists" and foreign agents.

"I wish to reassure the country that Uganda is peaceful, secure and thriving. However, what is also true is that we have to deal with the fifth column of imperial colonialists' sympathizers and foreign agents who intend to sabotage our independence and development," Gen. Muhoozi said.

The remarks were broadcast live by UBC during the military graduation ceremony, where new recruits completed their basic military training.

His comments underscore the UPDF leadership's position that while Uganda remains stable, security agencies must stay vigilant against perceived threats to national security and sovereignty.

The phrase "fifth column" is commonly used to describe individuals or groups accused of secretly supporting external interests from within a country.

Gen. Muhoozi's remarks come amid heightened political activity as Uganda moves closer to the next electoral cycle, with security and national sovereignty remaining central themes in public discourse. In recent public appearances, senior government leaders have similarly emphasized peace, stability and the need to guard against threats they say could undermine the country's development.

The pass-out ceremony marked another milestone in strengthening the Uganda People's Defence Forces through the graduation of newly trained recruits who are expected to join various units across the country.
