A political storm is raging after PLU Secretary General and NRM legislator Andrew Kabanda made explosive allegations involving Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.
Speaking in a widely discussed interview, Kabanda claimed that Among offered him Shs3 billion during a period of intense political maneuvering linked to efforts he says were aimed at weakening her position.
According to Kabanda, he flatly rejected the money.
But the drama did not stop there.
Kabanda further alleged that after he declined the offer, Among later informed President Yoweri Museveni that he had been soliciting the money on behalf of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The claims have immediately reignited conversations around tensions that have surrounded Parliament in recent years, including controversies linked to the Parliamentary Exhibition saga and broader power struggles within Uganda’s political establishment.
In the interview, Kabanda portrayed himself as someone who had previously stood by Among during difficult moments. He recalled defending her during the 2023 iron sheets scandal when pressure against the Speaker was mounting from different quarters.
However, Kabanda said this latest situation crossed a line.
The remarks have triggered sharp reactions across social media and political circles.
Supporters have praised him for speaking publicly about what he describes as behind-the-scenes political dealings, arguing that his disclosure demonstrates transparency and personal integrity.
Critics, however, have questioned both the timing and wisdom of revealing sensitive conversations that involve some of the country’s most powerful political figures.
As clips from the interview continue circulating online, the allegations have become one of the most talked-about political stories, with many waiting to see whether any of the individuals mentioned respond directly to Kabanda’s claims.
At the time of publication, the allegations remain claims made by Kabanda in the interview, and no official findings or public evidence have been presented to independently verify the accusations.
