A major media project is taking shape at City Hall after Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) handed veteran media consultant Dr Joel Isabirye a multi-million-shilling contract to set up the much-anticipated KCCA Radio.
The decision followed a competitive bidding process that attracted nine media organizations and consultants, all seeking to secure the prestigious assignment.
However, after evaluating the submissions, KCCA settled on Isabirye, a respected media strategist whose track record includes advising, managing, and helping establish numerous radio stations and media platforms across Uganda.
The development marks a significant step in KCCA's plans to strengthen its communication channels and expand its reach to Kampala residents through a dedicated radio platform.
Insiders say Isabirye's extensive experience in radio management, station setup, audience development, and media consultancy gave him a strong advantage during the selection process. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of Uganda's most sought-after media consultants, working with dozens of media houses and organizations.
The forthcoming KCCA Radio is expected to provide city updates, public service information, civic education, development programming, and coverage of issues affecting Kampala residents.
With the contract now awarded, attention shifts to how quickly the project will be implemented and when Kampala's newest radio station will officially hit the airwaves.
For Dr Joel Isabirye, the award represents yet another major milestone in a career that has seen him become one of the country's most influential figures behind the scenes of Uganda's media industry.
