Fresh political and football shockwaves are sweeping through Ugandan sports circles after explosive reports emerged linking veteran football administrator Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa to an alleged State House plan to reshape the leadership of Ugandan football.

According to highly placed sources, President Yoweri Museveni recently held closed-door discussions with the former FUFA president and current Vipers SC boss over a possible return to top football leadership or a role in Uganda’s sports ministry.

The alleged meeting has triggered intense debate inside football corridors, especially at a time when FUFA president Moses Magogo is facing growing public scrutiny and online criticism over the state of Ugandan football.

Sources claim Mulindwa was approached as State House reportedly explored new ideas aimed at revamping sports administration ahead of Uganda’s major football ambitions, including future continental and World Cup qualification campaigns.

But insiders now allege the hardline football boss did not immediately accept the proposal.

According to the reports circulating in sports and political circles, Mulindwa allegedly demanded a massive increase in government funding for sports before he could consider taking up any national assignment.

The figures being discussed have caused major attention.

Sources claim Mulindwa pushed for sports funding to rise from around Shs15 billion to more than Shs31 billion annually to support football structures, youth development, stadiums and talent systems across the country.

However, insiders allege negotiations reportedly hit a stumbling block after government reportedly proposed a lower figure said to be around Shs21 billion instead.

The claims remain officially unconfirmed.

At the center of the storm is current FUFA president Moses Magogo, who has recently been the subject of heavy online speculation, political gossip and social media pressure regarding football governance and financial accountability.

Some online reports have alleged that intelligence and anti-corruption discussions around football administration have intensified in recent months, although no official statement has been released confirming any criminal wrongdoing against Magogo.

Social media has especially been flooded with claims linking the FUFA boss to investigations connected to wealth accumulation, football finances and alleged misuse of funds allegations that remain unproven.

There are also growing rumors that powerful actors within government and football circles are quietly pushing for a “soft transition” at FUFA without attracting the attention of FIFA, which traditionally opposes political interference in football federations.

Neither State House nor FUFA had officially commented on the allegations by press time.

The developments have nevertheless reignited old debates among football fans over the Mulindwa and Magogo eras.

Dr. Mulindwa remains one of the most influential figures in Ugandan football history after serving as FUFA president before Magogo took over in 2013.

During Mulindwa’s tenure, Uganda Cranes enjoyed several strong regional performances and maintained a long unbeaten home run, something many nostalgic fans continue to reference whenever football leadership debates erupt online.

Interestingly, despite repeated rumors of tension between the two football administrators over the years, both Mulindwa and Magogo have publicly spoken positively about each other in the past.

For now, the alleged State House talks remain firmly in the realm of high-level political and sports speculation.

But one thing is certain, behind the scenes, Uganda’s football power game appears to be entering another dramatic chapter.
