Ntare School has celebrated seven decades of shaping leaders, bringing together generations of alumni, students, staff and well-wishers for a colourful platinum jubilee celebration at its campus in Mbarara.
Founded in 1956 and named after King Ntare V of Ankole, the renowned all-boys boarding school used the anniversary to reflect on its rich history while looking ahead to the future. The celebrations featured cultural performances, speeches, exhibitions, alumni reunions and fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting new development projects, including improved science and technology facilities.
The event attracted hundreds of former students from different generations, many of whom have gone on to become influential figures in politics, business, academia, the judiciary and public service across Uganda and the region. Alumni gathered in the school’s iconic blue and white colours, sharing memories of their school days and reaffirming their commitment to supporting the institution’s future.
School leaders described the anniversary as more than a celebration of past achievements, saying it was an opportunity to strengthen partnerships that will help improve infrastructure, mentorship programmes and learning opportunities for current and future students.
The platinum jubilee programme also showcased student performances, traditional dances and a friendly football match between staff and students, adding a festive atmosphere to the historic occasion.
Ntare School has long been regarded as one of Uganda’s premier secondary schools, producing generations of leaders, including President Yoweri Museveni, former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, the late Eriya Kategaya and several other prominent figures in public life.
As the celebrations concluded, the message from both the school administration and the Ntare School Old Boys Association was clear: preserving the institution’s proud legacy must go hand in hand with investing in the future, ensuring that Ntare continues to produce leaders guided by discipline, excellence and service for decades to come.
