Fresh concern has erupted over the whereabouts of Butambala County Member of Parliament Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi after the National Unity Platform (NUP) alleged that he was taken away by armed men at a military roadblock in Mpigi on Friday.
According to information shared by the party, Kivumbi was returning to Kampala from Butambala when his vehicle was stopped at the roadblock. NUP claims that armed men travelling in what is commonly referred to in Uganda as a "drone" vehicle removed the legislator and drove him to an unknown location.
As of publication, his whereabouts had not been officially confirmed, and there had been no immediate statement from the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police Force, or other security agencies regarding the reported incident.
The development is likely to heighten political tensions, coming amid continued scrutiny over the treatment of opposition leaders and supporters. Kivumbi has previously been at the centre of high-profile legal proceedings and security operations.
Party officials and supporters have called for authorities to disclose his location and ensure his safety, while others have appealed for calm as they await official communication.
This is a developing story, and more details are expected as authorities and political leaders respond.
