The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has taken another major step in its growing political mobilisation machine after launching its online membership registration platform alongside an official endorsement campaign for its chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The launch at the PLU Secretariat in Naguru, Kampala, comes barely a week after the movement announced plans for a nationwide endorsement drive for Kainerugaba.
PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla had invited ministers, Members of Parliament, Central Committee members and Patriotic Officers for Monday's ceremony, which was billed as the official launch of the PLU website, online membership registration and endorsement platform.
The movement's official membership platform is now publicly accessible, allowing Ugandans at home and in the diaspora to register and obtain membership records.
The endorsement campaign is equally significant.
PLU leaders have increasingly positioned Kainerugaba as their preferred candidate for Uganda's presidency in 2031, with mobilisation structures being activated across the country's 146 districts.
Earlier this month, officials announced plans to collect endorsements through physical books and nationwide rallies before complementing the exercise with a digital platform.
The campaign follows Kainerugaba's own recent declaration that he intends to contest for the country's highest office in 2031.
Monday's Naguru event attracted political and business figures as the PLU unveiled its latest digital mobilisation tools. The development signals an attempt by the organisation to transform its political support base into a structured national membership network.
The movement has in recent months undergone major leadership restructuring and expanded its influence within political and parliamentary circles.
While supporters celebrated the launch as a historic moment for the organisation, the bigger political message was unmistakable: PLU is building early for a post-Museveni political future.
With endorsements now moving from physical signature books to online platforms, the battle for political influence ahead of 2031 appears to have entered a new phase.
For Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba's supporters, Naguru was not just about launching a website.
It was another loud declaration that the 2031 conversation has already begun.
