PLU SHAKE-UP! Gen Muhoozi Drops Kabanda, Orders Immediate Handover as Inner Circle Shrinks

A political earthquake has hit the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

In a dramatic restructuring announced on Monday, Muhoozi Kainerugaba removed Hon. David Kabanda from the organisation’s top leadership and ordered an immediate handover of the Secretary General’s office to Hon. Fadil Twalla. According to Muhoozi’s statement, the transition is expected to happen as soon as possible under the supervision of PLU National Vice Chairman Michael Nuwagira, popularly known as Toyota.

The move signals one of the biggest internal shake-ups since PLU’s formation.

Muhoozi revealed that only four members of the outgoing Central Committee have survived the purge — Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, Hon. Michael Mawanda and Andrew Mwenda. The rest of the new leadership team will be unveiled later, suggesting more political surprises could be on the way.

While thanking Kabanda for what he described as three years of excellent service, Muhoozi made it clear that a new chapter is beginning inside the organisation. The PLU chairman praised Kabanda’s contribution but simultaneously handed the influential Secretary General role to Fadil Twalla, a longtime ally within the movement.

The development comes at a sensitive moment for Kabanda, who recently attracted attention after publicly expressing frustration with active politics and hinting at stepping away from the political arena.

Political observers are already reading the latest changes as a major consolidation of Muhoozi’s trusted inner circle ahead of the next phase of PLU’s mobilisation efforts. With several prominent figures reportedly left out of the new structure, the coming announcements are likely to be closely watched across Uganda’s political landscape.

For now, one message from the PLU boss is unmistakable: the old guard is being reshuffled, and a new team is taking shape.
