The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has entered a new chapter after officially handing over the office of Secretary General to Tingey County MP Fadil Twalla, who replaces David Kabanda following his resignation from the position. The transition was conducted during a high-profile ceremony at the organization's headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

The handover underscored PLU's growing political influence, drawing more than a dozen Cabinet ministers, over 200 Members of Parliament and hundreds of supporters. The event was chaired by PLU Chairman and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who praised Kabanda for his service while expressing confidence that Twalla would strengthen the organization's structures and advance its objectives.

Twalla pledged to build on his predecessor's legacy, promising to promote unity within the organization, expand its structures nationwide and work closely with the leadership to deliver PLU's vision.

The appointment forms part of a broader leadership reshuffle announced by Gen. Muhoozi. The changes brought several prominent government figures into PLU's Central Committee, including Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, alongside other senior ministers and parliamentary leaders, reflecting the organization's continued strategic alignment with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

During the event, PLU leaders reiterated the organization's focus on patriotism, national service, anti-corruption and supporting government development programmes. Gen. Muhoozi also emphasized PLU's commitment to supporting President Yoweri Museveni's vision of growing Uganda's economy to a US$500 billion GDP by 2031, describing the organization as a civic movement working alongside government institutions to advance national development.
