Excitement swept through Uganda’s entertainment industry after news emerged that President Yoweri Museveni had directed Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to facilitate a Shs7 billion financial boost for Bivulu promoters.
The development came as promoters and SACCO leaders converged at the Office of the Prime Minister Conference Hall in Kampala for a highly anticipated consultative meeting convened by the Prime Minister.
Photos and videos from the venue showed promoters lining up outside the conference hall ahead of the 2:00 PM meeting, signaling the significance of the gathering for an industry that has continued to recover from the devastating effects of the COVID-19 lockdown.
The Bivulu Promoters SACCO was established as a government-backed initiative to support music promoters who suffered major financial losses when concerts, festivals and public entertainment events were suspended during the pandemic.
Sources within the sector say the Shs7 billion intervention is expected to strengthen the SACCO’s lending capacity and provide additional financial support to members involved in Uganda’s entertainment business.
The meeting brought together registered SACCO members and leaders, with discussions focusing on the welfare of promoters, financial empowerment and the future growth of the entertainment industry.
For many promoters, the announcement represents one of the biggest government-backed financial interventions directed at the sector since the lockdown period.
As stakeholders await official details on how the funds will be disbursed, optimism is growing among promoters who believe the move could inject fresh energy into Uganda’s events and entertainment business.
All eyes are now on the Office of the Prime Minister for further communication on the implementation of the Shs7 billion directive and what it means for thousands of stakeholders linked to the promoters’ SACCO.
