Prince David Kijanangoma, a prominent member of the Tooro royal family, has died, according to a family announcement.
The family announced his passing in a brief message, describing the prince’s death as peaceful and saying funeral arrangements will be communicated later.
Kijanangoma had been battling stage-three throat cancer. In April 2026, reports indicated that his family and friends were seeking financial assistance to help him access specialised treatment after his condition deteriorated.
He was a son of the late Prince Paul Kijanangoma and a grandson of former Tooro King George David Rukidi III. He was also known for his outspoken involvement in Tooro Kingdom affairs.
Kijanangoma gained national attention years ago after challenging the leadership of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV and declaring ambitions for the Tooro throne.
His death comes at a particularly significant moment for the Tooro royal family. The kingdom is currently facing a succession dispute following the death of King Oyo in August, with Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma having been selected by the Babiito clan as the next king.
The family has not yet released details of the burial programme.
