Kololo Airstrip came alive on Friday night as thousands of music lovers turned up to witness Ray G's highly anticipated live concert, transforming the iconic venue into a sea of singing, dancing and celebration.
The concert marked Ray G's first major solo show at Kololo, a significant step up from his previous headline performances and one of the biggest achievements of his career so far. Fans travelled from different parts of Uganda, particularly Western Uganda, to support the singer whose blend of Runyankore heritage music and Afropop has earned him a loyal following.
Throughout the night, the "King of the West" thrilled revelers with a catalogue of his biggest hits, drawing loud singalongs and energetic reactions from the packed audience. The event also featured appearances by fellow artistes who joined him in celebrating the milestone.
The successful concert further cements Ray G's position among Uganda's leading live performers. His move to the larger Kololo venue followed years of building his fan base through successful concerts in Mbarara and Kampala, with organizers previously saying the bigger venue was chosen to comfortably accommodate growing demand.
While many fans and commentators described the turnout as historic for the singer, there is no official confirmation that the concert set a national attendance record or that Ray G became the first artiste to fill Kololo on his own. Even so, the overwhelming turnout has been widely celebrated as a defining moment in his musical journey and another sign of his expanding influence beyond Western Uganda.
