"Pray for Me Day and Night" — Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth Raises Alarm Over Alleged Witchcraft

Just weeks after taking over as Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth-Oboth has made an emotional appeal to Ugandans, asking them to pray for him and the country's leadership, warning that Parliament must not become a place where witchcraft is exalted.

Speaking during a recent public event, the Speaker urged religious leaders and believers across the country to continually intercede for Parliament, saying the institution should remain a place of "praise, power and good law-making" rather than one associated with spiritual darkness. His remarks have since attracted widespread public attention.

Social media posts and online reports have circulated claims that Oboth-Oboth became concerned after experiencing disturbing dreams and that Anglican priests were invited to pray over and spiritually cleanse his office. However, these specific claims have not been independently verified through official statements or credible primary sources.

What is publicly confirmed is that the Speaker has repeatedly called on Ugandans to pray for Parliament and the nation's leaders, stressing that the country's highest legislative institution should be guided by faith, integrity and moral leadership rather than practices he described as witchcraft.

His comments have sparked debate across Uganda, with some viewing them as a sincere call for spiritual support, while others argue that discussions about alleged supernatural influences should be approached cautiously and without diverting attention from governance and accountability
