Uganda Airlines has made one of the biggest aviation moves in the country's recent history after signing a deal worth nearly $982 million with Boeing for the acquisition of 10 new aircraft.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday in the presence of President Museveni, marking a major milestone for the national carrier as it pushes for aggressive fleet expansion. According to information released by State House, the new fleet will include both passenger and cargo aircraft aimed at boosting Uganda's connectivity and trade capacity.

The deal is reportedly valued at approximately Shs3.7 trillion, making it one of the largest investments ever committed to Uganda Airlines since its revival in 2019.

Government officials say the aircraft acquisition is expected to strengthen tourism, attract investment, expand cargo operations and position Uganda as a more competitive aviation hub in East Africa. Entebbe International Airport is expected to play a central role in that strategy as the airline expands its regional and long-haul network.

The signing comes just days after Works and Transport Minister-designate Fred Byamukama revealed that Uganda planned to acquire 10 additional aircraft in phases to grow the airline's fleet.

Uganda Airlines currently operates a fleet centered around Airbus A330-800neo and CRJ900 aircraft, serving destinations across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The new Boeing order signals a major expansion phase that could significantly increase the airline's reach over the coming years.

For Uganda's aviation sector, Wednesday's signing was more than just a purchase agreement—it was a statement of intent. The national carrier is preparing for a much bigger future, and the race to dominate regional skies has just intensified.
