Pure heart. Pure history.

Uganda’s Under-17 national team has officially qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar after surviving a nerve-shredding Total Energies AFCON U-17 Play-Off clash against Ghana.

The young Cubs looked finished at one stage as Ghana pushed hard and held the advantage deep into the game. But Uganda refused to die.

With seconds left on the clock and tension exploding inside the stadium, Uganda was handed a dramatic penalty after a Ghana defender handled the ball inside the box.

The Ugandans converted from the spot in the 90th minute to force the game level at 2-2, sending the bench, fans, and officials into wild celebrations.

Then came the penalties.

And what followed was absolute madness.

Both sides traded successful kicks in a tense shootout that kept everyone holding their breath before Uganda finally edged Ghana 8-7 in sudden death.

The final whistle sparked emotional scenes as players collapsed onto the pitch in tears while officials and technical staff stormed the field to celebrate the historic qualification.

This marks one of the biggest achievements for Ugandan youth football in recent years, with the Cubs now set to represent the country on the world stage in Qatar.

Ghana, known as one of Africa’s traditional football giants at youth level, were left stunned after letting victory slip away in the dying minutes.

Uganda’s fighting spirit, however, became the story of the night.

From the dramatic comeback… to the pressure penalty… to the unforgettable shootout victory, this was football cinema.
