Just when many Vipers SC fans thought stability had finally arrived at Kitende, the club has pulled another surprise.
Vipers SC have officially parted ways with Belgian coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert, ending his stay at the club less than a year after his arrival. Reports indicate the separation came after the expiry of his contract, with both parties agreeing to go their separate ways.
The development has sent shockwaves through Ugandan football, especially considering that Minnaert leaves with an impressive record. The experienced Belgian guided the Venoms to their eighth Uganda Premier League title and remained unbeaten in league competition during his tenure. Earlier in the season, he was widely praised for steering Vipers through a successful title charge despite growing pressure and expectations at the club.
Behind the scenes, however, questions had persisted over tactical decisions and long-term direction despite the club's strong position in the league. Reports during the title run suggested some figures within the club were unconvinced by certain aspects of the team's performances even as results continued to arrive.
The latest departure adds another chapter to Vipers' long-running coaching carousel. Over recent years, the Kitende giants have become known for frequent changes in the technical bench, with several coaches leaving despite delivering silverware or respectable results.
Minnaert had arrived with a strong reputation after winning the Liberian Premier League with FC Fassell and brought extensive experience from spells across Rwanda, Kenya, Libya, Mali and South Africa. Expectations were high that he would lead Vipers to greater continental success while maintaining domestic dominance.
Now the big question is simple: who takes over next?
With preparations for a new season already underway, attention immediately turns to the Vipers hierarchy as supporters wait to see who will be entrusted with leading one of Uganda's most ambitious football clubs into its next chapter.
